Increasing reach and engagement with short form content means getting the right gear. Here's our top products.

If you're a photographer, filmmaker, or content creator, and you're not making short-form videos on platforms like IG Reels, TikTok, or YouTube shorts — you're missing out. The reach of these platforms is simply mind-blowing. Personally, by creating and sharing content on TikTok and IG Reels, I managed to grow my audience by 30,000 in less than a year. I also network with big-name creators and partner with some fantastic brands that I love, like Fujifilm, Moment, and Adobe, to name a few.

If you're not sure how to get started, don't worry! Short-form video content creation doesn't have to be a massive transition in your workflow. You can share your creative process, show your audience what you do, or teach them the skills they need to be successful. As long as your content is educational, entertaining, and relatable, it has the potential to do well, no matter the production value. Whether you have an entire mirrorless video rig or just your phone and a good mic, you can create fantastic content.

So, if you're an aspiring TikTok star, content creator, or filmmaker/photographer looking to get into short-form video, here's a list of my favorite tools to help get you started.

1. Moment MagSafe Case for iPhone

This phone case is the real deal for me. It not only keeps my phone safe, but it also looks terrific and pairs perfectly with my favorite Moment lenses. Plus, the best part is that it lets me streamline my entire mobile content creation process. The built-in magnets work with Moment's MagSafe mounting accessories, making it super easy to attach and detach my lenses. It's a total game-changer

2. Pro Tripod Mount - Portrait

If you're making videos for TikTok or IG Reels, then being able to film in portrait orientation is crucial. That's why I love the Pro Tripod Mount - it makes it super easy to pop my phone onto my tripod, film a few clips, and then remove it quickly without any fussing around with clamps or complicated attachments.

And if I need to attach a microphone or LED light, the mount's included cold shoe has me covered. It's seriously the perfect tool for any mobile content creator.

3. Lightning to TRRS Adapter

If you're creating a short-form video, you only have a few seconds to grab your viewer's attention. That's why having great audio is an absolute must. One of the easiest ways to make your content stand out is by using a dedicated microphone. If you're looking to use a higher-quality lav mic or shotgun, then this adapter is an absolute essential. It'll help you capture crystal-clear audio that'll take your videos to the next level.

4. Smart Lav+ Microphone

The SmartLav+ is my favorite microphone to use for capturing audio with my iPhone. It can be clipped to your collar, hidden inside your shirt, or you can even hold it in your hand for great audio on-the-go.

5. Manfrotto Pixi Tripod

My favorite tripod just so happens to be the most affordable and portable one in my collection. It's super easy to use and travel-ready. All you have to do is mount your phone or camera, spread out the legs, and then push the button to dial in the perfect angle. The best part is that this tripod isn't just great for holding up your camera — it's also perfect for rigging up microphones or lights. It's the ultimate tool for any content creator on the go.

6. Multithreaded Mount For MagSafe

If you want to take your shot composition to the next level, then you've got to stop shooting everything at eye level. And with the multithreaded mount, it's never been easier to get creative with your camera angles.

This mount allows you to attach your phone to friction arms, rigging equipment, or boom arms - making it super easy to capture low-angle shots, high-angle shots, and even my favorite: top-down overhead shots.

7. FujiFilm XS20 Camera

Whenever I want to take my video quality to the next level or get that gorgeous, shallow depth-of-field effect, I always reach for my trusty Fujifilm X-S10. It's the perfect balance of image quality, portability, and fantastic color - which is especially great for those who don't want to spend hours color-grading their short-form video footage.

The flip screen is an absolute game-changer when framing and nailing the perfect lighting and exposure for my shots. It's seriously my go-to camera for all of my content creation needs.

8. FujiFilm 18mm F/1.4 Len (Backup 16mm F/1.4)

When creating video content, my go-to lenses are the tried-and-true FujiFilm 16mm F/1.4 and the updated FujiFilm 18mm F/1.4. These bad boys are absolute game-changers when making that up-close-and-personal, "talking head" style content while keeping the background nice and blurry (even in my tiny office space). But that's not all — these lenses also work great for capturing b-roll footage, wide scenes, and even getting in close for those faux-macro shots. They're seriously the most versatile lenses in my kit.

8. RODE Video Micro

Let me tell you, in my opinion, this is the most versatile shotgun mic you can get for the price when it comes to creating content. I use it all the time for TikTok, IG Reels, and even my YouTube videos. Whether you're using it with your mirrorless camera or your trusty smartphone, you'll be able to capture vlog-style audio that's crystal clear. And when you're in the studio, boom it up close to your mouth, right outside the frame.

9. TRS to TRRS Cable

To use your RODE Video Micro with your phone, this cable is essential. It's perfect for vlogging or setting up talking headshots in your TikTok studio.

10. Mefoto Benro Backpacker

When I need something more than a pocket-sized tripod, the Benro Mefoto backpack is my go-to. It's the perfect height for shooting short-form video content on location, and when I'm finished, it packs up small and compact. It's a total no-brainer

11. Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone

Are you ready to level up your audio game? Look no further than the Shure MV7. This mic is the one for you whether you're a little camera shy, recording voiceovers, or adding that perfect podcast-quality audio to your TikToks or IG Reels. The best part? It's super versatile with XLR and USB outputs so that you can plug it into your computer without any extra adapters or converters

12. DJI Action 2

If you're looking to add some POV (point of view) footage to your short-form video content without holding your phone all the time, an action cam is a must-have. And the DJI Action 2 is just what you need! It comes with a magnet mount that lets you clip the camera to your clothing, making it easy to film behind-the-scenes content without drawing too much attention to yourself.
