What Is the Long Weekend 35mm Film Camera?

The Long Weekend Film Camera is a reusable 35mm point-and-shoot with a fixed 31mm f/9 lens. It’s designed to be super simple; no focus ring, no screen, no endless settings to toggle through.

It has a fixed shutter speed of 1/120, making it great for everyday shooting in good light. When things get a bit darker, there’s a built-in flash you can flip on for extra exposure, especially indoors. The body is made from a lightweight ABS plastic, so it’s both durable and easy to carry wherever you go. And the best part? It requires no batteries to shoot — you only need one to use the flash.

This is one of those cameras you just load up, shoot, and enjoy. It’s made for capturing life as it happens, with zero stress and all the fun.

How to Load Film in the Long Weekend Camera

Let’s load it up. For best results, I'd suggest using ISO 200 or 400 film because it's neutral in most lighting situations. Some of our favorites are OdysseyPro 199 or OdysseyPro 399, both made to bring out amazing colors without dropping the price tag of the more professional-looking Kodak Portra 400.

Step-by-step:

  1. Open the back by flipping the latch on the side.
  2. Insert your 35mm roll into the left side compartment.
  3. Pull the film leader across and slide it into the take-up spool.
  4. Wind the advance wheel until the film catches properly.
  5. Close the back, then click the shutter and wind again until the frame counter reads “1.”

Boom. You’re ready to shoot.

How to Shoot with the Long Weekend Camera

Shooting with this camera is all about keeping it chill. There’s no autofocus or exposure settings. All you do is look through the viewfinder, press the shutter, and let film do its thing.

Flash Tips:

If you’re shooting indoors or in low light, then flip the flash switch on. It takes about 10–15 seconds to charge. If it’s bright and sunny, you should ne good to go without flash.

Note: The viewfinder only shows about 70% of your final frame. So give your subject a little breathing room, and just trust the process. Film’s imperfections are supposed to be fun an experimental.

How to Rewind and Unload Film

Once you’ve snapped through all 24 or 36 exposures, it’s time to rewind.

Here's how:

  1. Hold the rewind button on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Crank the rewind knob on top (clockwise).
  3. You’ll feel the tension release once it’s fully rewound.
  4. Open the back and remove your roll.

⚠️ Pro tip: Don’t open the back too early — or you’ll expose your film and lose your shots. We’ve all been there once.

Extra Gear

If you didn’t already snag the matching wrist strap or camera pouch, now’s the time. The wrist strap is perfect for quick access when you’re walking around or shooting street scenes and the matching pouch keeps your camera protected without adding more weight.

Film photography isn’t about getting that perfect exposure (only sometimes). It’s about real life; spontaneous, raw, and full of feeling. The Long Weekend 35mm Camera does it perfectly, while giving you a fun go-get-em experience while staying cheap.

So now that you’ve got it, go shoot your first roll. You’ll never forget the feeling. And you have more questions we didn’t answer, don’t hesitate to give us a ping at hello@shopmoment.com!
