This camera is a beast regarding image quality. Its full-frame sensor and 33-megapixel resolution capture incredibly detailed and vibrant images that make your footage look amazing.
But what sets the A7IV apart is its dual ISO capabilities. This means you can shoot in low-light conditions without worrying about grain or noise ruining your shots.

Here's some work we did for a beauty client. It was imperative for them to capture natural skin tones as accurately as possible. I used to worry a lot about skin tones, but with the A7IV's lifelike colors, I don't have to stress as much.
I was amazed by the autofocus system of this camera. It is quick and reliable, making it ideal for photographing fast-moving subjects or taking pictures with a shallow depth of field. It can even focus in low light conditions (–4EV with an F2 lens), making it a unique camera. It also integrated Eye AF into its central AF system, allowing a smooth transition between tracking the eye, face, and body for moving subjects. Furthermore, the A7IV can focus on unfamiliar faces and objects, ensuring that all your precious memories are captured accurately.
Equipped with 10-bit capture, you can extend the range of tonal information, granting you unparalleled flexibility to generate high-grade Log video. Additionally, with 4K/30p capture that does not involve sensor cropping, you can guarantee that your video will be stored in its most exceptional resolution. The novel High Frame Rate (HFR) setting permits you to capture Full HD images at 120fps, which is ideal for producing gorgeous slow-motion sequences.
I formerly worked with the Panasonic GH5 for several years. It was an outstanding camera, but I was not fond of V-log (I always opted for Cine-V). But with the A7IV, we can record with a straightforward rec709 instead of SLog. This immediately yields footage that is ready for use. We are in the business of social media and content creation, so we must maximize workflow speed to produce top-tier images and meet the digital asset requirements of our clients. The A7IV is the perfect camera for this kind of work.
How important is having maximum dynamic range and processing flexibility for you? Despite its impressive resolution, the burst rate drops to 12-bit mode, significantly reducing the dynamic range. The A7IV can still shoot ten frames per second in the lossy compressed format; thus, if you want to shoot Raw, a lossless compression option is available, cutting the burst rate to around 6fps. Sony claims that the camera has a buffer depth of over 800 Raw+JPEG images (or around 1000 JPEGs) when shooting with the uncompressed Raw format; however, this will again cause the burst rate to reduce to 6FPS.
Another minor issue is that it tends to overheat when shooting in hot climates. We will likely include the FX30 in our inventory to facilitate shooting in such conditions.
This camera is a natural rival.
Suppose you're in the market for a top-of-the-line mirrorless camera. In that case, you may have noticed that the Sony A7IV is one of the more expensive iterations, especially compared to the similarly priced Canon EOS R6 and the much more affordable Nikon Z6 II. Even the Panasonic Lumix DC-S5 is a camera with comparable video specs (10-bit 4K capture with 60p from the APS-C crop), but also at a much lower price point.
Additionally, many creators publically compare the Sony A7IV to the Sony FX3: two posterchild video cameras in the mirrorless universe. But overall, what ultimately sets the A7IV apart is its advanced autofocus system, the minimal rolling shutter in 4K footage, and the ability to deliver a sustained 10fps burst rate for hundreds of images.
Overall, the Sony A7IV is a fantastic camera if you are looking for an all-rounder kit. It's got killer image quality, dual ISO capabilities, compact size, dual SD card slots, and an excellent autofocus system. Sony's renowned posterchild choice is a no-brainer if you want a new camera.
