Shooting w/ Moment's T-Series Mobiles Lenses in Chicago

After Moment announced their brand new T-Series lenses, they sent me some pre-production versions to test. Instead of writing a technical review, I decided to share some practical, everyday examples of how you can use these lenses to inspire your own creativity.

What are those examples? Well, it’s a highlight reel of a day in my favorite city – Chicago.

We started the day with portraits at our Creative Club Chicago photo studio. We’ve been heavily inspired by Gawx lately, so we pulled out our projector and some haze and made these portraits of Chad (@chadlmeeks).

After portraits, we headed out to grab a coffee and shoot around the river walk in Chicago. This area is easily one of my favorite parts of the city.

One important thing to note with the telephoto lens is that Moment recommends manually focusing via the Moment app to get the sharpest results. I didn’t realize that going into using it, so I was pretty frustrated with the images because they were all soft or a little out of focus. Still, when I started manually racking focus in the app, I got substantially better results.

After our walk, we headed back to the studio to keep working. And by keep working, I mean go down to the loading dock in the back of our building and pretend that we skateboard.

JK – Chad actually shreds and can do a 360 ollie no scope.

I never use a fisheye lens for anything, but a small one for my phone seems like the perfect middle ground. I still get the option to experiment with this focal length without spending hundreds of dollars on a lens for my Canon cameras.

After a long day of super intense “work,” Bean (@iamaaronbean) and I grabbed a quick bite to eat at Small Cheval, one of our favorite spots in the city. We roamed the streets briefly before heading up to the 94th floor of the Hancock building to view Chicago as it transitioned from golden to blue hour.

This is one of my favorite city views, especially as blue hour falls.

We made one last stop at the Chicago theater and a quick stroll down Michigan Ave to end the night — just in time for Lolla to wrap and the crowds to swarm.
