Variable ND Filters

Sale price$150.00 USD

Device: 72mm
Stops: 2-5

The Moment VND gives you more control with a clean, consistent look. Built with dual layers of precision-aligned cinema glass, it reduces light evenly without introducing color shift, vignetting, or cross-polarization. Each stop range is fixed and precisely machined, with ND positions aligned at exact angles to deliver accurate, repeatable exposure control. You get smooth motion blur, natural rolloff, and the ability to shoot wide open in bright conditions — all without sacrificing sharpness or contrast.

Designed for going places, the VND features our unique Viewfinder-Visible Stops, so you always know where you are in the range — no guesswork, no checking between shots. A subtle detent at the end of rotation gives tactile feedback when you've hit your limit. Housed in a lightweight, machined aluminum frame with built-in hard stops and a laser-etched Control Dial, the Moment red anodized ring stands out on your rig and holds up in the field. Available in 2–5 and 6–9 stop versions to cover every lighting condition.

Features
  • True-to-Life Image Quality: Delivers sharp, color-accurate results with no vignetting or color shift
  • Available Stop Ranges: Choose 2–5 stops for everyday use or 6–9 stops for bright conditions
  • Built-In Hard Stops: Mechanical limits at both ends prevent cross-polarization and over-rotation
  • Viewfinder-Visible Stops: Laser-etched indicators let you see your exact stop level while shooting
  • Machined Grip Ring: Knurled aluminum body offers better handling and quick removal
  • Conical Hood Design: Tapered front helps minimize glare and reduce edge reflections
  • Rugged Metal Housing: Aerospace-grade aluminum for durability without unnecessary weight
  • Works On Mobile: Works with Moment’s 67mm Filter Mounts for on phone or on Moment Lenses.
  • Lens Cap Friendly: Compatible with standard center-pinch lens caps
  • Lifetime Guarantee: Backed by Moment’s no-hassle warranty for long-term confidence

Variable ND Filters
Variable ND Filters72mm / 2-5 Sale price$150.00 USD

Why do i need a VND?

If you want precise control over your exposure and shutter speed without constantly swapping static filters, the Moment Variable ND is an essential tool for your setup. Engineered with dual layers of premium German Schott B270 cinema glass, it reduces light evenly across the frame while eliminating common issues like color shifts, vignetting, or cross-polarization ("X-pattern"). Built-in hard stops keep your rotation strictly within bounds, while laser-etched, angled stop markings are visible right from behind the viewfinder so you can adjust settings on the fly without breaking your shoot. Available in 2–5 and 6–9 stop ranges, it lets you maintain cinematic motion blur and shoot wide open at f/1.4 even in harsh daylight.

WHY MOMENT FILTERS

The Right Glass

Engineered for the Details

Unique Character

Easy to Grip & Stack

Each filter uses the right glass for the character you need. UV filters that are clear, CPLs that reflect, VNDs that don’t mess with your shot…even CineBloom, with glass that responds to our unique coatings.

We obsess over every detail. Years of refinement mean smoother rotations, firmer stops, and ongoing improvements because our quest for a better filter never ends.

We created a proprietary formula to get the right look for each of our filters. our classic filters – UV, CPL, VND – give you a crisp look that doesn’t get in the way. our specialty filters – CineBloom, CineBloom VND, CineFlare – provide a unique character you can’t find anywhere else.

We want our filters to be easier to use, no matter the conditions. easy to stack multiple filters, easy grip and rotate, and even easy to use with standard lens caps. Using a filter shouldn’t be hard.

If you need a variable ND, just go for this one

I'm just getting into landscape and long exposure photography so I did the thing where I try to buy a cheap filter to see how much I'd use it.

Turns out-- yes, I use variable NDs a LOT for long exposure.

Also it turns out those $20-40 variable NDs you can get from Amazon are just okay, but you get a LOT of uneven discoloration running across your image. I had Gobi one that gave me a giant purple plus sign running across the middle of my frame (kind of a cool effect but not really what I want in my long exposure shots)

Enter the Moment variable NDs-- no matter how much I crank these up, there's no discoloration at all. I'm attaching a photo taken with a stupid long exposure time for the daytime using the 6-9 stop filter (f/22, 30 sec, iso 100). This filter was cranked up all the way and I can't spot any discoloration at all (I can, however, spot a few specs of dust on my sensor, whoops!).

My one complaint might be that you can't use a lens hood with these due to the wider edges (I'm running the 67mm version), but that's never been a bad issue for me. It does make it easier to screw on/take off, however, since it's not flush and since you can get a nice grip on the edge of the filter

Do yourself a favor and just save yourself the money and pick up one (or two) of these-- buy once, cry once, and buy with confidence that your shots will come out great

More than I knew I needed!

Began shooting in earnest on iPhone six months ago. Moment has been my brand without fail. As with the other lens (Anamorphic 1:33 w. blue flare) the ND filter has increased the quality of my videos tenfold.

Unusable Past 100mm

Unfortunately it’s blurry and unusable on focal lengths 100mm and above. Definitely not resolving a quality good enough for above 4K (4K might be pushing it). Missed some unique wildlife shots discovering this. Color cast below that that can be corrected but could make color matching difficult on video. Should have grabbed the nisi. Build quality is decent. Also be aware the wide flare means it can’t be used with a lens hood if you want to use one.

Solid Nd's

I still have more testing to do with these, but they have been solid for me so far. Sometimes NDs can be lower quality and have a green tint sort of shift to them, but I've gotten none of that from these. Great build quality, solid look, I really enjoy them.

The best most versatile accessory in my kit.

I just finished a cross country commercial project that required me to film from a moving vehicle at all times. Simply stated, it would have been impossible without these.

Mostly great product

The product works really well, but I do have one complaint with adjusting it while using it on a phone with the mobile mount. When trying to turn the filter to adjust it oftentimes the whole thing screws off or the mount twists making it annoying to adjust while attached.

Hello Adrian! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! We're glad to hear the product is mostly working well for you. We really appreciate your feedback and we’ll be sure to pass it along to our team. Szabi - Gear Guide

It’s too early to review in its entirety as I haven’t had the opportunity to try in all setups. But seems to work as intended. Expected slightly lighter though.

One of two filters I keep in my bag

One of those pieces of gear that always stays in my bag. Its a great quality VND that isn’t as pricey as some competitors, but wont leave you disappointed like the cheap no-name Amazon stuff.
