The ultra-compact FE 40mm F2.5 G lens measures 68mm diameter x 45mm and weighs in at only 173g. This makes it ideal for both APS-C as well as full-frame camera users. Its ultra-compact size and lightweight balances well on smaller APS-C format bodies, providing a very useful mid-range focal length of 60mm (full-frame format equivalent). This super small lens is also ideal for full-frame users wanting a standard 40mm field of view who prize compact size and weight to reduce their load, especially for those photographers and videographers who travel a lot.
Close-ups in a standard field of view
Get a unique perspective through close-up, wide-angle shooting. The standard 40mm angle of view is useful in applications from snapshots to movie shooting. The FE 40mm F2.5 G features an impressive minimum focus distance of 11.02” (0.28m) (AF) / 9.84” (0.25m) (MF) and maximum magnification of 0.2x (AF) / 0.24x (MF). With the wide F2.5 max. aperture, you can also shoot close-ups with beautiful blurred background bokeh.
While conventional aperture blades have flat sides that create unappealing, polygonal-shaped defocused points of light, the FE 40mm F2.5 G incorporates a 7-blade circular aperture mechanism to maximizes the beauty of this large-aperture prime-lens.
Two Linear motors for fast, precise autofocus tracking and a Natural manual focus response
Taking full advantage of the continuing rapid advances in the speed and performance of newer camera bodies, two linear motors are used in the FE 40mm F2.5 G lens to deliver fast, precise AF (autofocus) with excellent tracking performance. Tracking is maintained despite instantaneous changes in subject motion, making the lens ideal for situations that require tracking a moving subject.
Linear Response MF (manual focus) ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise in both still and movie modes.
