Supercage - Mobile Cage with Integrated USB-C Hub

Have not had the super cage for a long time, little over a week now. I am nowhere near a professional. It does take some getting used to. Initial overall impression, nice robust. Would like for it to come with plugs for openings or ports that you don’t use. Setting up the device is very straightforward. Comes with the tools needed to adjust things. Storage of the tools, would be better to carry in your bag. Will be doing more of a detailed review on my YouTube channel after some time of getting used to the device. ***m.youtube.***/@QuietNCalm

A very practical, lightweight, and useful cage, perfect for professional recording. I love how you can connect everything directly to the cage for easier control over the recording process. I would definitely recommend it.

Absolutely great if you need the connections. The hub is well made and makes things easier to connect and to manage. I highly recommend for small and big project. Just let you imagination go and you will find more possibility than you initially expected.

The build quality is amazing! I really love the IO on the cage being able to shoot directly to an SD card is awesome. I also have fallen down the rabbit hole of looking at all the ways you can kit this thing out. Filming and shooting pics has become way more fun with this piece of gear. However, I would suggest avoiding the handle bundle. The handles are just Moment rebranded NEEWER products. The shutter button is borderline useless it goes to sleep almost immediately after you push it making you push it a few times before it reconnects. It’s also very TIN-e and you can hear the button resonate through the cage in your video. I would just get the cage and buy handles elsewhere. If I had just gotten the cage 5/5 stars. The bundle is just poorly executed.

The Moment Mobile Super Cage is exceptionally well built. The materials feel solid and durable, and once the phone is mounted the cage feels extremely sturdy and secure. It inspires confidence when shooting, especially when adding multiple accessories. What stands out is the connectivity and expandability. I tested it with an external microphone, an SD card, and a Sennheiser lavalier microphone with headphones connected to my iPhone 17 Pro Max. Everything worked flawlessly and the connections were recognized immediately. I also tried mounting a SmallRig universal power bank holder with a clamp mount on the cage. It did fit, but it required a bit of force to slide into place, so it wasn’t as easy to mount as expected. It’s a minor downside, but worth noting. Overall, it’s a very reliable mobile rig that combines strong build quality with excellent accessory support

I was thoroughly surprised at the quality of this iPhone rig. I use it for a lot of content creation. I do for work accompanied with the Moment lenses and it has not failed me. I love all the attachment points to add lights, monitors, and hard drives.

This cage is my first and I am so grateful I held out for this cage. The quality is amazing. The only thing I wish is for recommendations on how to rig it out but I can find those online.

Great cage! As good as it gets. Able to plug in all sorts of add ons for your phone. Built like a tank. Makes your phone a professional tool for movie making. Just buy it, you won’t regret it.

While it's definitely pricier than other phone cages out there, the USB-C hub that's integrated into it is everything one could want when putting together a souped-up iPhone/mobile device rig. Unlike true cameras that are actually dedicated and designed to produce video, the iPhone (and most other mobile devices) doesn't have a variety of ports to connect your various accessories to, making the workaround alternative a fairly convoluted process. This cage expands your iPhone into something closer to an actual CAMERA—one that's dedicated to capturing more professional-level video, rather than having it as an additional feature. It works great, is ergonomically perfect, and allows you to really get the most out of your phone's true media capabilites!

I am a backer of the SuperCage and so glad that I backed it! The construction is amazing and the integrated USB-C hub is exactly what I needed. This is an absolutely amazing hub!

I really love my super cage! I make independent films and I also film live bands & skateboarders. The cage is lightweight, and you can really do anything with it. I love that I can easily mount my monitor to the top so when I'm holding it low to film a band or when I'm skating along with a friend I can get a good angle on the capture. Make sure you absolutely order the handles with it because it makes a huge difference. It also connects well to all of my tripods and I've had no issues with it.

Awesome product. Looking forward to get some more accessories to make it even better.

Excited to rig this thing out. I’m newer to using my iPhone for video. The Supercage really piqued my interest as far as taking my phone more seriously for cinematography.

Solid. NATO is great. well-thought out. ARCA is great.

I'm super happy with this product, love how compact and flexible it is (not locking you in to an ecosystem). If I bought all of the parts separately (cage, usb hub, 3. 5mm adapter) it would have probably cost more, had more compatibility problems (usb hub specs are finicky), and be way more cluttered/awkward. Just 2 things preventing the cage from being perfect: 1. Included USB-C cable doesn't fit well with Moment's own case: The cable doesn't connect securely to the iPhone when you're using Moment's case (which is a little embarrassing for them). Moment sent me a different cable for free, so thank you for that! 2. Missing the ability to disable/turn off audio input: When an iPhone is connected to this cage, it's hard-wired to an audio input. Third-party apps like Kino must use a connected audio input when connected and don't have the ability to switch to the iPhone's internal mics (which could sometimes be a better fit for certain circumstances). Only the Final Cut Camera app lets you manually change from the audio input to the internal mic. I would love if this cage had a physical switch (or something) that "disconnected" the 3. 5mm audio input and let my 3rd-party apps use the internal mic.

Supercage is everything I have ever wanted in a mobile cage. Have done a few casual and professional shoots with this cage and it has been solid using the Blackmagic Camera app for iOS and recording to SSD or SD card.

I wish the HDMI port would drive my OLED TV, but it looks like the docs are saying that's more for a monitor, so there is probably a technical reason for that.

The big win for me is having a hub built in so I can charge, run mics, record to SSD, etc. all at the same time. I did pick up the side grips (one with a shutter button). Those just add to the stability of the rig.

I understand that the cable provided with my SuperCage was defective and Moment is working on a batch of replacement cables.
But it’s not clear if or when I will receive my replacement cable.

With that said, once Moment corrects its defective cable for connecting your iPhone to the SuperCage, this will be the camera rig of choice and bye-bye Smallrig x Brandon Li All-In One Video Kit.

However, for now, Moment’s SuperCage is just a cage and not the industry leader while they work to replace their defective cable.

P. S. Moment when can I expect my replacement cable?

Was part of the kickstarter crowd and experienced the customs delayed with everyone in the US with respect to the Supercage. Been using it to build out a dedicated iPhone based Cinematic Rig, shipped without the magnets and Allen key on the bottom, and after several back and forth emails for 2 months now still don’t have a resolution.

It draws power while connected to your phone, a fully charged iPhone 16 Pro Max depletes about 15% an hr on idle just sitting there which I’ve tested a couple of times now. Which forces you to add an external battery to it to keep you going throughout the day.

Peripherals are another story, if running a Levar Go SSD I can attest you are good to go without external power as it pulls a low amount of power for both the 1 and 2 TB. Samsung drives will drop off 100% of the time without an external power. Kondor Blue’s Pro Blade Handle with SanDisk’s ProBlades results vary wildly. Their 1TB would often times drop 1-2 times per hr of recording, with their 2TB is useless without external power.

Their built in hot shoes are not true to form as they are short to allow use of the NATO Rails. Beware when added mics and other cold shoe accessories as I have reverted to adding a 1/4 20 screw in option to hold those accessories in place.

I’ll keep building this out for the foreseeable future as it’s the only good option currently available. It works for what it’s designed to do which is to hold your phone.

Solid construction and rigidity. The metal feel is really beautiful, as well as the overall versatility of the NATO rails and Arca Swiss bottom. The ports work fully as intended except for my microphone jack. If you're not outputting audio, use a TRS 3. 5mm jack, as TRRS won't work with the cage.

This may be a unit issue for me but the microphone jack outputs horrible quality on my microphone, despite extensive troubleshooting and ensuring the microphone works in different conditions (I am grateful for the Moment support team however for getting me through this). Wish I could fully appreciate the cage with no faults.

Final thoughts: I was able to hook up a monitor, v mount battery, SSD, microphone, and light using the Supercage, showing how useful this little tool is in mobile filmmaking. Definitely purchase and use with a cheese plate on the back for expansion. It increases the product's effectiveness by a ton.
