An in-depth cultural and photographic journey through the fascinating Kingdom of Jordan.
This program offers an expertly curated survey of the very best of Jordan, exploring both the ancient and modern dimensions of this compact yet remarkably multi-faceted, visually stunning and utterly unique country.
From Amman, Jordan’s bustling capital city, to the serenity of world-class ecolodges deep in the desert and onward to the sprawling, epic ruins of Petra, we will traverse both space and time, moving through varied, gorgeous landscapes and over 25 centuries of incredibly dynamic history.
We will tour grand Roman ruins, stand atop Mount Nebo, and visit long-abandoned Crusader castles and historic Greek Orthodox churches. In Wadi Rum, we’ll spend two nights in the futuristic “Martian Dome” luxury hotel pods, with astounding views of the desert night sky.
Chance to eat Superb European and Middle Eastern cuisine (including one private traditional Arab cooking class) and fantastic photographic opportunities round out this unforgettable experience.
Arrive at Queen Alia Airport (AMM). The Jordan visa on arrival will be arranged in advance for all group members holding a U.S. or Canadian passport.The visa is pre-paid as part of the tour services.You will be met by a greeter with your name on a signboard and assisted with Immigration formalities. Claim your luggage and then transfer via private car to the Amman Rotana hotel.

Morning orientation meeting, followed by a private cooking class and lunch at the Beit Sitti residence. Next is a walking tour of Amman, to include the Citadel and the lively historic souqs (markets) for spices, fruits, vegetables, traditional Arab medicine and the gold traders. Day excursion to the extensive Roman ruins of Jerash, followed by lunch and street photography in A-Salt, including a visit to the Al Khader Orthodox Church. Return drive to Amman. Overnight Amman Rotana hotel.

Depart Amman, drive to Madaba and visit the St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, then tour the summit of Mt. Nebo. Following Nebo, we drive the spectacular mountain road down to the Dead Sea.

Depart the Dead Sea and drive south to Wadi Musa / Petra. For the next 4 days we will explore the incredible, extensive ruins of Petra and Little Petra and tour the Petra Museum. Activities include both group and (optional) solo hikes. The trail network at Petra offers a wide range of experiences, from easy to difficult. On one of the full days at Petra you can choose your own solo program based on your fitness level and photography objectives, or participate in the group activity.

Depart Wadi Musa / Petra and drive south to Wadi Rum, via the Hejaz Railway Station and the train featured in the classic film “Lawrence of Arabia”. At Wadi Rum, check in to our futuristic “Martian Domes” at Sun City camp. Lunch at camp, followed by a 2 hour jeep excursion into the surreal desert landscape of Wadi Rum.

The morning is free to explore and photograph in the vicinity of the camp. Next we bring a picnic lunch on a 6 hour drive deep into the Wadi Rum desert, exploring caves, petroglyphs, natural rock bridge formations and sand dunes, both by vehicle sand on foot.

Depart Sun City / Wadi Rum and return to Amman via a lunch stop in Al-Karak. Group farewell dinner in Amman (included).

Petra: A famous archeological site in Jordan's southwest desert. Dating to around 300 B.C., it contains tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs.
Wadi Rum: A stunning desert landscape with sand dunes, rock formations and petroglyphs, also known as Valley of the Moon.
