Camera Comparison Review

With OnePlus’s newest flagship now on the market, there’s no wonder why everyone is as stoked as we are. We recently took a comparison test to see what the OnePlus 6T is up like against the OnePlus 7 Pro — a throw down of all relative camera reviews.

OnePlus 7 Pro Specs

With a full report confirming the 7 Pro’s packs a 6.67in Fluid AMOLED screen with a resolution of 3,120x1440, a refresh rate of 90Hz, a baked-in fingerprint scanner and, unsurprisingly, a pop-up selfie camera. Under the hood you'll find a Snapdragon 855 SoC teamed with 6GB, 8GB or 12GB RAM, either 128B or 256GB built-in UFS 3.0 storage, and a 4,000mAh battery. That’s a lot of meat. The OnePlus 7 Pro, also somewhat unsurprisingly, looks set to be the company's most expensive gadget yet.

Interestingly, the built-in wide lens is something to take note of; you can be at maximum field-of view in 1x then pinch to zoom out and suddenly you are at ".6x" of normal field of view. This is different for many smartphone cameras out there, marking this phone as distinct as it gets.

The Screen Value Alone is Killer...

The 7 Pro’s screen displays like syrup. It’s ultra fluid movements is perfect to act as an OLED screen against the 6T. Although this comparison is minor and is only conclusive to aesthetics, it’s perfect for photographers and videographers who want the most out of their phone’s camera.

Dynamic Range

The blackest black to the whitest white, usually expressed in Evs (Exposure Values) or more commonly referred to as “stops.” The dynamic range of a human eye is on average 14-20 stops of light, compared to a LCD screen that is only about 9.5 stops. Most phone cameras produced within the last five years will have at least around ten stops of dynamic range.

To be perfectly honest — within our field test findings — the OnePlus 7Pro is only marginally better than the 6T. And although the vibrancy of the colors seem to be more present in the 7Pro, the 6T has significantly better results in low-light and other not-so-desired shooting conditions (thanks to the lower aperture, bigger sensor, and wider ISO!).

People have always given OnePlus grief due of their super poppy colors, but they may have changed something recently as we didn’t see that during the shoot. The colors had a beautifully soft, forgiving flare that complimented various skin tones.

Looking sexy.

Pop-Up Selfie Cam

One of the greatest features of the phone is to see the differences in selfies. I mean, c’mon. A pop up camera selfie is incredible and it shows. Can you see the difference?
