Fujifilm X100V vs X-E4 vs X-Pro3 | Which Is Right For You?

Let's find which digital mirrorless camera best suits your needs.

⚠️ WHOA, NELLY! ALERT!

These cameras are extremely popular. So much so that they're heavily back-ordered with no estimate of when they may be fully back in stock. Might we suggest reading about the Fujifilm XT5, the more dynamic X-S20, or our entire roundup of the best Fujifilm cameras?

There are at least nine unique X-Series cameras that Fujifilm currently offers, and whether you're new to the platform or a seasoned veteran, it may be tricky to decide which one is the right for you. In this article, I will take a look at three photo-centric offerings and help you decide which one may be best for you — the Fujifilm X100V, X-Pro3, or X-E4.

Choosing The Fujifilm X100V

The Fujifilm X100V is a premium compact camera with a rangefinder-style experience and a fixed, 35mm equivalent lens. You'll know this camera is the one for you if you desire a simulated rangefinder experience with the hybrid viewfinder and plan on shooting with one focal length for most if not all your work. Whether it's street, travel, or capturing life as it passes by, the X100V is what I dubbed the perfect companion camera that encourages you to keep shooting with its rich features and beautiful design.

This camera offers some unique premium features with the built-in ND filter and a leaf shutter that allow you to shoot in more environments with more ease and more discreetly. It is special. While this camera has a lot going on, the fixed focal length and price-point segment it uniquely. Your comfort with those two factors will answer if this is the right one for you. Now, what if you wanted some more flexibility?

Choosing The Fujifilm X-Pro3

The most obvious reason you'd opt for the X-Pro3 over the X100V is if you want the flexibility of changing your focal length. And it's not even that you wish to own a large collection. Even if you're considering two focal lengths, prioritize the X-Pro3. This camera is paired with the 23mm and 56mm and makes for an excellent photography solution. The hybrid viewfinder is here on the X-Pro3, along with an original design that'll appeal to users that value that. The sub-LCD is not for everyone, but it makes for a unique experience in the field that'll cater to those that want to be in the moment when they capture.

If you're looking at photography as an opportunity to generate extra income, the X-Pro3 is a better option than the X100V. That is not the end goal, but the opportunity might be there. You have the versatility to choose how you see your world, working within the restriction of seeing it primarily through an optical viewfinder and doing so with a durable (i.e., titanium) product. I'd argue that the X-Pro3 better suits someone that looks to go beyond the hobbyist status. The idea of selling prints, portraits, or even events is not entirely out of the picture. With all this said, let's look at the Fujifilm X-E4 and where that lies.

Choosing The Fujifilm X-E4

The beauty of this camera is that it offers the guts and photo features of the previous cameras while sitting at a much more affordable price point. If you want to jump into the Fujifilm ecosystem, this is an excellent starting off point, and so long as you aren't expecting all the buttons and dials, you'll appreciate what this camera can do. You have all the film simulations as the previously mentioned cameras, the ability to use any lens you want in a very compact solution.

The LCD flips up all the way around and proves to be very useful in several unique situations, like quickly recording a talking point on the go. Because of this, the X-E4 can feel like a more empowering creator tool where you can hover between photo and video with much more ease. Quite simply, if you're planning on shooting for yourself and want a good amount of flexibility for your creative journey, the X-E4 is a great option that'll give you value.
