Destination Coffee: Best Coffee Shops in Brooklyn

Words + Photos : Brian Cason

Getting your caffeine fix in New York is easy; there’s a Starbucks on every corner. But why take the beaten path? In a city so highly saturated with culture, there are endless great choices, outside the mainstream coffee spots. Finding them isn’t even the hard part; the hard part is choosing which ones you’ll visit!

If you find yourself outside Manhattan, make your way over to Brooklyn and check out these amazing coffee shops for some joe and a few photos.

Devocion (Williamsburg)

This Colombian oasis in Williamsburg offers farm-to-table coffee and beautiful scenery. Step inside and you’ll immediately feel transported from the bustling city into an almost tropical escape. The large skylight in the middle of the shop offers perfect natural lighting at just about every table. Snag a seat in front of the large foliage wall to get the perfect coffee portrait.

What to get: Latte – Their lattes are strong and balanced.

Blue Bottle (Bushwick)

The California staple has been spreading like wildfire across the city of New York, and their newest addition in Bushwick doesn’t disappoint. Serving as their regional roasting facility, this newly opened spot with it’s large white walls and simple decor makes it the prime spot for anyone with an affinity for minimalism.

What to get: New Orleans Cold Brew – This on-tap cold brew comes mixed with milk and lightly sweetened.

Walter’s Coffee Company (Bushwick)

Breaking Bad fans will want to make a trip to Bushwick for this. A shop that started in the UAE has found success in the heart of Brooklyn with it’s Breaking Bad themed shop. Pops of yellow, a periodic table menu, and beakers everywhere add just enough whimsy to this place. With plenty of seating and an outdoor patio, it’s a great place to gather with friends. Find pops of yellow around the shop to accent your photos.

What to get: Pour Over – Check out the seasonal pour over menu for something that suits your taste buds.

Located just a few blocks from the Brooklyn Bridge Park, it’s the perfect location to rest when running around the city or grab a coffee to go and explore the waterfront outside. As a bonus, their pastry case is always stocked with great donuts, cookies, and more.

What to get – Iced Coffee – Keep it simple here with an iced coffee, or drip if you don’t take your coffee cold.
