The History

We created the Moment Invitational to encourage filmmakers around the globe to push the limits of what can be shot on a phone. We believe that making films with a phone is not a limitation, it’s an opportunity. The mobility, size, and immediacy of a phone allows us to see the world differently. The Invitational is our way of advancing this cause.

How It Works

MIFF combines a YouTube style video contest with a huge giveaway and an exclusive online premier. This way sponsoring brands get exposure online, new followers, new emails, access to creators, and long tail exposure through the content. 

01 - The Open

1/28 - 5/24

Thousands of creatives will enter one of seven categories by making a short film shot on their phone. To be considered they have to submit their email address, follow the sponsoring brands, and tag their videos.

The Assignment

  • A film under three minutes.
  • Shot 100% on a phone or drone.
  • Inclusion of festival sponsor names in the description.
  • Raw BTS footage to be used in a Vlog.
  • A thumbnail for the film.
  • A bio / headshot.

02 - The Voting

6.2 - 6.12

A panel of celebrity judges selects 15 finalists and the community selects their favorite film through the People’s Choice Award. By voting, the community enters to win $10K and two free tickets to the workshop. In order to vote, the community has to follow the sponsoring brands and enter their email address.

  • 15 finalists selected by judges.
  • Community votes online for the People’s Choice.
  • Each finalist receives $1K in cash, $3K in gear, and a trip to NYC to attend the festival.
  • Voters can win up to $10K in gear and a free tickets to the workshop.

03 - The Online Workshop

To kick off the premier we are hosting a single day, online workshop for mobile filmmakers. Buy a ticket, learn from 6 instructors, and ask them questions. Or buy the workshop later and experience a pre-recorded version. Over time this will become the most popular online workshop for mobile filmmaking.

04 - The YouTube Premiere

THE event of the year for mobile creatives. We publish the premier on YouTube for the finalists and thousands of their fans to watch. It's a two hour show to watch the films, celebrate the creators, meet past winners, get to know the brands, and connect online with the community. We’ll find out which creators win $10K as the people's choice plus $25K in category prizes. Debuted on YouTube the premier will be both live and available for thousands of creatives to watch later.
